Ithaca Creek oil on canvas 76cm x 76cm

I was born in remote western Queensland, Australia where I spent my childhood years on a sheep station. I moved to Brisbane for secondary school and university and later completed visual art studies at Queensland College of Art. I have been exhibiting my work regularly since 1995.

Recently I have relocated north of Brisbane to live on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. My studio is at the top of a ridge. The land drops away through forest to eventually reach a creek in the valley. My artwork has been influenced by my new surroundings.

I am interested in the complexity and density of the forest, the moving patterns of light and shade and the many subtly different greens. A landscape can evoke feelings of wonder or mystery which I aim to describe in paint. I try to express a sense of the particular place, of what it feels like to be there.
